description
Vorspiel is a citywide program of independent project spaces in Berlin creating events at the intersection of art, tech, politics, and experimental sound in the lead-up to the annual transmediale and CTM festivals.
who we are
School of Machines, Making & Make-Believe is an artist-led non-profit. We teach experimental programs spanning art, technology, design, human connection and new media, with themes responding to the current state of the world since 2014. We’ve recently expanded into a shared studio space called Make-Believe Studio that hosts our artist community and other events. It’s located on the 5th floor of ACUD in Berlin, Mitte, with a sick ass view. We’re also growing a new limb this year in the form of our sister school, School of Humans, which hosts experimental events connecting humans to themselves and each other through experimental conversational formats. Through Vorspiel 2026 we offer a taste of all of these. Come join us!

WORKSHOP
A super short intro to creative coding with p5.js
Instructor lislis
Saturuday, January 22, 11:00 - 13:00
What is creative about writing code? Good question! Let's explore a few possibilites of exercising our creative muscles with only a few lines of code! This is a workshop for total beginners who would like a glimpse into how creative coding or generative art work. We will cover programming fundamentals that apply to most progamming languages and expand on them individually. For this we will use the p5.js framework and work exclusively in the browser, no installation or accounts required. Just bring a laptop.
WORKSHOP
Coding beeps and boops
Instructor lislis
Saturday, January 27, 11:00 - 13:00
Live performance and programming overlap in the artistic practice of live coding: programming sounds or visuals (or both) live in front of an audience. This workshop introduces the practice itself, its roots and possibilities, but focuses on getting your live coding feet wet: we will work with the browser-based live coding environment strudel (https://strudel.cc/) to create beats, small tracks and jam together. Prior programming knowledge is useful but not a requirement. Bring your laptop and a pair of headphones!
EVENT
Humans Answer Questions With Other Humans
Thursday, January 25, 18:00-19:30
Do you like to meet new people and have interesting conversations? Then this event is for you! We’re inviting a small group of humans for an experimental eve of intimate conversation with strangers. Kind of like truth or dare, but with just the truth part. The questions which will be put forth are intended to help bring out what is real and alive in everyone, to give an intimate snapshot of what goes on in the hearts and minds of modern humans that we don’t often get to see, even from our friends. Questions, snacks, and drinks will be provided. This is a School of Humans event.
