MOVIE NIGHT: Steal This Story, Please!
Wed. 4. November at School of Machines @ACUD, 19h-21h
We’re beyond thrilled to offer a showing of the film, Steal This Story, Please! this 4. November, one day after the upcoming US midterm elections. It’s a documentary from Academy Award Nominated Directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessin which chronicles three decades of investigative journalist Amy Goodman and her independent news broadcast, Democracy Now! We hope this will be a moment of celebration and an important time to gather together to be inspired and rethink our roles as humans and activists in what comes next. Join us!
After the film: a talk with Brad Simpson
Brad Simpson, a former producer for Democracy Now! from 2000 to 2002, will join us online after the screening to talk about his experiences, the history of the show, and working with Amy Goodman.
Brad has known Amy for nearly 30 years. They met in November 1999, when she and journalist Allan Nairn stayed at Stone Soup Housing Cooperative after Amy returned from the Battle of Seattle, for an East Timor solidarity meeting the co-op hosted. School of Machines founder Rachel Uwa and Brad were housemates at Stone Soup back then, so this evening brings things full circle, and we’re excited to hear his stories.
Brad is a professor of history at the University of Connecticut, a historian of US foreign policy and human rights, and a longtime activist. You can read more about him at bradleyrsimpson.com.

School of Machines is located at ACUD KUNST HAUS, Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin. To attend any of our events, go thru the big red doors on the right side past the mailboxes. Take a left once you exit towards the hinterhof. Then turn left and you will see the elevator there on your left. Take it to the 5th floor. :)
