This September School of Machines and BYOBB Berlin are collaborating as part of Berlin New Media Week — two workshops plus an exhibition and AV performances across two days in Berlin.

¿New Media Art?
Wed. Sept. 2 at School of Machines @ACUD, 15h-18h
This short workshop is for anyone curious but unsure where to start. Fair warning: I’ll be sharing my biased take based on the artworks that established how I think about new media art including ones that eventually led me to start a school.
First, we'll get to know each other because that’s my favorite part. Then I’ll share works I find meaningful which will lead us to discussing ideas, inspirations, and what "art" or “new media art” in particular even is.
Next you’ll brainstorm project ideas that reflect who you are and what you care about, exploring what happens when you add new media and interactive elements to your work.
No experience necessary. Come with curiosity and a willingness to explore art, ideas, and your own beliefs.

Tiny Circuit Jam / Micro-Jam (SOLD OUT)

How does electricity become sound?
In this workshop, we will build tiny circuits from scratch. You will explore what is basically happening inside an electronic circuit. Rather than using ready-made modules, we’ll work from basic principles: imagining how a circuit might behave, seeing it in a visual simulation, then building it ourselves and translating electrical signals into sounds.

We'll begin with an introduction to basic electronic components, and experiment with them using an open-source, browser-based circuit simulator software. Then we move onto physical components to assemble miniature circuits in groups. At the end, we’ll use the product of our work to make a collective jam.
The workshop is designed for anyone curious. No previous electronics or music experience is needed. We’ll work with accessible, inexpensive components and open-source tools. What you learn can become a starting point for your own experiments, artworks, or strange little sound machines.
Please bring a laptop or tablet.
Led by Przemek Drewnowsky, technical lead at School of Machines and Bertha Elena Artero Ponce is a Bolivian composer, teacher, and cultural manager living in Berlin.

Pancake Society
Sat. Sept. 5 at School of Machines @ACUD, 12h-15h
Pancake Society is a semi-regular Saturday afternoon gathering bringing together creative humans for an afternoon of pancake-making and discussions around topics that feel urgent right now. Bring your fav pancake topping, bring your appetite, bring whatever's been on your mind.
We'll spend the afternoon cooking together, then open into a conversation about what it means to be an artist in these ridiculous times.
EXHIBITION / AV PERFORMANCES
BYOBB Berlin "Plug&Play"

BYOBB is a concept of one-night exhibitions in which artists bring their own projectors and present their vision. It is a radically open format, free from hierarchy, free from the traditional curatorial approach, and free for the public.
This is the third edition of BYOBB Berlin, organized by Pike Collective. This edition expands beyond projection, embracing all forms of new media art. The program also features AV performances. Free entry.

School of Machines is located at ACUD KUNST HAUS, Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin. To attend any of our events, go thru the big red doors on the right side past the mailboxes. Take a left once you exit towards the hinterhof. Then turn left and you will see the elevator there on your left. Take it to the 5th floor. :)
