tl;dr three-month residency!

Do you have an experimental project you’ve been wanting to develop that doesn’t fit into one discipline or professional box? Are you interested in translating your research and ideas into more creative formats? Do you want more structure and community to help you move forward?

The School of Machines, Making, and Make-Believe is opening its Berlin space, both in-person and virtual, for three months this winter to artists, researchers, designers, performers, and technologists who are developing work and ideas at the intersection of art, technology, and political inquiry.

This residency is a space to experiment and create in community. You can bring ideas that currently exist as research, drafts, open questions, or unfinished projects, and explore what they could become. Alongside peer exchange, feedback, and mentorship, you’ll have access to the School’s studio and makerspace and to a community with a wide range of creative and technical skills. You might want to experiment with physical computing, AI, sound, moving images, performance, data, or something you haven’t figured out how to make or express yet.

Participants will gain the accountability to develop ideas and skills with a like-minded community around them and the practical support to try things outside their existing skill sets.

The residency also includes concrete opportunities to share work, including exhibition opportunities during the program.

The residency runs November through January and costs €300. Some reduced solidarity tickets available until 7. November. See eligibility.

We’re hosting an online Q&A on November 5. If that timing doesn’t work, you can book a short call. For more info and to join: https://www.schoolofma.org/programs/p/fall2026-creating-community-solidarity-thru-art-tech
